Please read this letter below from Joel Foy, it's about his
special 1951 Tele
® and the restoration I did to his pickup...

"Thank's for the great job, Don."

It was a sad day when I discovered the bridge pickup on my trusted '51 Tele® was dying.
I'd owned the guitar for most of my adult life, and it had a distinctive bark and pop that was
loaded with character and low-down funk. I'd never heard quite the same tone in any other Tele®,
and I had no idea if I could find someone who would even understand the sound, let alone be able
to recreate it. But I knew I had to try. After numerous phone calls around the country,
I had recommendations for all the best Fender and Tele pickup guys from coast-to-coast,
and all points in between. They were all highly skilled and qualified, and most names were familiar
to me, but visits to their websites still left me undecided. Then my old friend Junior Watson, the man
with the golden ear, recommended a Tele fanatic in Long Beach - Don Mare with Cannon Rewinds.
Junior Watson told me this guy, who was completely unknown to me, was obsessed with black guard
Tele®’s and would be the best man for the job. A half-hour conversation with Don Mare, interspersed
with sound samples of different guitars and pickups he'd put together convinced me that he not only
understood and loved the many varieties of black guard Tele® tone possibilities, but that he understood
all the design intricacies - wire gauge, winding cross-hatch patterns, insulation, coil density,
wrapping tension, resistance, magnet strength, etc., etc. that affect a pickup's sound. He went the extra
mile, in fact, many extra miles to see that the bad coil on my pickup was recreated as accurately as
possible.
This included microscope work, coil weight, photo-analysis, hand cleaning the corroded magnets
and bobbin, listening to recordings of the original pickup, and the tedious process of unwrapping
by hand 3000 winds of the original coil so he could recreate the original winding pattern, all interspersed
with photos, emails, and phone calls. His meticulous work paid off when I got the pickup back in the
guitar and discovered, along with every other guitar player in the room, that the re-wrapped pickup had
the same sizzle, punch, and funk as before. Don Mare's impeccable craftsmanship made my '51' Tele® as
good as old, and that ain't easy!

Pickup Rewinding & Vintage Tone Restorations

What you need and want is our mission. Your current pickups may already have good magnets.

Restoring/Rewinding service Price List

Tele® - $100.00 each

Strat® Set $240.00

sorry - no Humbucker rewinds

or any odd style pickups

You can have that custom hand-made set today. It will be 100% dialed in to your personal needs!

Rewinds need lots of TLC, customers need lots of TLC, you deserve the best! This is especially true when dealing with your valuble vintage pickups rewinding needs. Winding patterns need to be duplicated (this means at least one hour of backwinding by hand to learn the scatter winding pattern of the original pickup winder).

Parts may also need to be dupilcated. Every step of the way needs to be photographed and documented - this can sometimes involve many hours and usually it does.
